The Kinetix team's work on physically-grounded motion and video generation accelerates our research into world models for robotics and deepens our presence in Europe.

Today we're announcing that the team from Kinetix, a Paris-based AI research lab, is joining Runway. The team's work on 3D human motion and physically-grounded video generation will help drive our research into world models for robotics, and they'll join Runway's Paris hub as we continue to grow our presence in Europe.

As we push forward on real-world intelligence and generalist robotics, the Kinetix team will be key to advancing our research. A truly useful robot needs to be able to understand and handle novel environments, tasks and situations in the real world. Large-scale video pretraining offers the most efficient path to solving those challenges of generalization.

"Robotics is going to be one of the biggest applications of world models, and it's an area we're deeply focused on," said Anastasis Germanidis, co-CEO, Runway. "We've spent years teaching models to understand and simulate the world. The next step is teaching them how to take actions in the world, and the Kinetix team will be instrumental in our work here."
